This week's Perseids meteor shower could be the best sky show of the year. During it's peak we can expect about 60-70 meteors per hour, but the numbers could reach anywhere between 150-200 meteors an hour.
The meteor shower's peak will be most visible Saturday and Sunday nights, with Mars (visible until about 4 a.m.) and Saturn (visible until about 2 a.m.); Venus and Jupiter both set before the Perseids are best viewed (9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., respectively).
You can see the Perseid meteor shower best in the Northern Hemisphere and down to the mid-southern latitudes. The key to seeing a meteor shower is to take in as much sky as possible by going to a a dark area and prepare to sit outside for a few hours. It takes about 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark, and the longer you wait outside, the more you'll see.
