Update On Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge Fire

A wildfire, potentially ignited by lightning over the weekend in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, that sent smoke northwest toward Waycross, is now contained and estimated at 180 acres. Six type VI engines, four tractor plows, and one type III helicopter were assigned to the fire. Mop up will continue throughout the day, and will have no effect to the Okefenokee Swamp Par which is open for visitors.
