ATLANTA – The ACLU of Georgia staff will be attending the Voter Machines Open House in Decatur County, Georgia on October 9, 2019 which will be co-hosted with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. The ACLU of GA and partner organizations are kicking off a program to monitor the six counties that will be testing Georgia’s new voter machines before the go into full service in 2020.
“Monitoring elections is critical to prevent the voter suppression that happened in the 2018 election,” stated Christopher Bruce, political director of the ACLU of Georgia. “We are committed to ensure that every eligible voter has easy, reliable access to the ballot. We remain resolute in protecting the sacred, constitutional right to vote for all Georgians.”
The ACLU of GA is seeking volunteers to help with election protection efforts in those six test counties: Bartow, Carroll, Catoosa, Decatur, Lowndes, and Paulding. Additional monitoring will be held in Cobb County, where a test of the paper ballot system will be carried out. Interested volunteers can reach out to ACLU of Georgia at volunteers@acluga.org.
