Man Beaten in Glynn Jail Dies

Luke Hutto, the inmate beaten by his roommate in his cell at the Glynn County jail, has died, according to sources close to the family, Hutto was taken into custody November 4th on charges of Misdemeanor Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers. On November 5th, an inmate alerted guards that there was a fight in the cell occupied by Hutto and at least one other man. When officers responded to the incident, Hutto was found to have severe injuries to the back of his skull.

The Sheriff’s Department had Hutto transported to Southeast Georgia Health System, but he was later transferred to a hospice in Ponte Vedra. There is no confirmation as to whether he was admitted to a hospital in Florida prior to being admitted to hospice.

Questions have arisen as to whether Hutto had already been granted release from the jail when the fatal beating occurred.

The Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the GBI is the agency investigating the case.
