6pm Update 9/12/17

6pm Update 9/12/17

Glynn County, local, and state officials are working to develop a plan for a quick and efficient reentry process. Earlier today a press conference was held wherein county officials would NOT give a specific timeline for the reentry of the citizens of Glynn County. However, this afternoon, the county did open the FJ Torras St Simons Causeway to unrestricted travel. This again does NOT mean that Glynn County is open. You must still have a critical worker pass to enter Glynn. However, if you’re in Glynn, you may now travel to St. Simons freely.

The Sidney Lanier Bridge is now open to traffic as well.

Assessment teams are being deployed to determine the damage to the community and will repair the damage as rapidly as possible. Widespread power outages, limited water and sewer capabilities, fallen trees, downed power lines, and flooded neighborhoods create for a life-threatening combination and it is simply not safe for citizens to return. Do not touch fallen power lines as they can be extremely dangerous.

JSWC still recommends a water conservation policy:

• No showers or baths should be taken.

• Toilets should not be flushed if at all possible.

• Sink use should be extremely limited.

• Do not run dish washer or washing machines.

The Glynn County School System, Frederica Academy, and College of Coastal Georgia have cancelled school for the remainder of the week, through Friday, September 15.

Glynn County and City offices will be closed through Wednesday, September 13. A curfew from midnight to 6 a.m. has been extended to Saturday, September 16.

Publix is now open for business from 7am to 7pm and other grocery stores will follow shortly.Several restaurants are open for business, the most recent announcement has been that of McDonald’s at exit 36.

Law enforcement personnel at various checkpoints will be restricting reentry. Only people with a critical workforce pass will be allwoed reentry into Glynn County at this time.
