According to the Wall Street Journal in an effort to legalize casino gambling in Georgia seven corporations have hired more than 50 lobbyists to press their case at the state capitol stating “The world’s largest casino corporations have set their sights” on the state...“hoping state legislators will consider opening up one of the nation’s last untapped regional markets to full-service gambling.”
The seven corporations including MGM Resorts International, Wynn Resorts Ltd. and Las Vegas Sands Corp. are lobbying The General Assembly to considering a proposal to allow two casinos in Georgia. The proposed constitutional amendment requires Gov. Nathan Deal’s signature as well as the approval of voters. The pressure to find new markets has sent commercial casinos into nine new states over the last 15 years.
