Darien 2020 Blessing of the Fleet Postponed

In a press release from Mandy Harrison, Darien-McIntosh County Chamber of Commerce President, it was announced that the 2020 Blessing Of The Fleet in Darien, Georgia has been postponed. In a statement Harrison said "Let me preface my remarks by reinforcing that the health and safety of our community, volunteers, festival attendees, vendors and performers is our top priority. After careful consideration, we have been advised by the Department of Health, theDistrict Board of Health, City and County Officials as well as the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors that is it necessary to POSTPONE the 2020 Blessing of the Fleet event at this time due to the global concerns over the COVID-19 virus. The new date of the event will be announced as soon as possible."

Darien City Manager/Attorney Richard Braun issue the following statement: "After consultation with local officials, including County Attorney Ad Poppell and EMA Director Ty Poppell, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Darien concur in the decision to postpone the Blessing of the Fleet festivities. We assure the public that this decision was not made lightly and is made in consideration of the unprecedented dangers and uncertainties of the COVID-19"
