A late night riot broke out at Ware State Prison in Waycross in the late hours on Saturday, August 1st leaving two staff members and two inmates injured. The guards sustained non life threatening injures due to stab wounds, the inmates injured were also non life threatening.
According to the Georgia Department Of Corrections, the situation escalated around 10:45 PM and was under control by the staff and placed on lockdown by 1AM Sunday, August 2nd. Ware State Prison guards implemmented non-lethal ammunition to gain control of the situation. Several windows in the facility were broken and a golf cart was reported to have been set on fire. As the situation is still under investigation few details have been released and it is unclear what lead to the riot.
