Glynn County Commission meeting Tuesday for SPLOST 2021 project

The Glynn County Commission will meet at 9:00am Tuesday to finalize the SPLOST 2021 project list.

The major changes to the list that were proposed by Commissioner Bill Brunson during last week’s regular commission meeting included dropping a $2 million dollar road improvement project at the intersection of Canal Rd. and Old Jesup Rd. From the list and reallocating a large portion of the money to the Coast Guard Station beach master plan. The plan was developed by the Coastal Georgia Historical Society and the Convention and Visitors Bureau, who were going to raise private donations for the project. Last year the Commission was going to earmark $1.5 million for the project. That was increased this year to $2.5 million and now Brunson is asking for $4 million saying the CVB and Historical Society will commit to the $1 million dollar balance. The list is expected to be finalized tomorrow so County Attorney Aaron Mumford can draft the SPLOST referendum for a commission vote. During tomorrow’s meeting the commission will also adopt a joint resolution with the Brunswick City Commission declaring the Oglethorpe Conference Center infeasible.
