ST. SIMONS ISLAND Change in Roundabout traffic pattern

Public Service Announcement: Change in Roundabout traffic pattern.

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga.- In order to reduce potential accidents in the roundabout at Frederica Rd. and Demere Rd. on St. Simons Island, the Glynn County Public Works Department will be re-striping the intersection beginning on Monday, January 23, 2017. During this re-striping process, a slight change in the overall traffic pattern will be made that will force traffic in the outer lane of the roundabout to exit north on Frederica Rd., thus preventing potential traffic conflicts at that particular area. When approaching the Frederica Rd. northbound exit, traffic in the right lane (outer lane) will only be allowed to exit north on Frederica Rd. Traffic in the left lane (inner lane) will have the option of exiting northbound on Frederica Rd. or proceeding in the roundabout.

The roundabout will remain open, but traffic will be restricted to certain lanes while the work is occurring. In order to minimize traffic disruptions, work will be conducted daily from 9:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m., and possibly 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Weather permitting, the entire re-striping project is expected to take a week to complete.

Information provided by Glynn County Board of Commissioners.
